I've managed to get it working once again. I pressed down on the fold in the ribbon cable to give it a little more clearance from the backplate and placed a piece of electrical tape on the soldering, between the controller and the backplate. @numist, can you post a picture of both ends of the soldering? Sometimes just a little bend / pressure can cause a column not to register if the soldering has a flaw. I had this with my self modified keyboards.
