The forum you have here is filled with great people who really like keyboards, I don't know why you seem to think that those that disagree with you have an agenda handed down from some higher power.

I have allowed your dismissive language to irritate me and by so doing I have failed at a key ...

Fossala, Webwit, did you not agree that this kind of meta-conversation was better held in a different thread than the ergodox's? Has it been started?

I think that the pointless arguing about MD has gone on long enough(15 pages and 2 months at least right?) here. The trigger has been pulled and what ...

The smell of acetone(nail polish remover) while setting should be your guide, in general you want the most generic silicon you can find no silicone II for example, but I don't know what the branding would be anywhere but the states. Alosiuus linked a version that will definitely work. I usually buy ...

@webwit and Aloisius, could you not just duel on a mountaintop to resolve your issues? I think that you both have clocked in at least 3.5 pages of arguing at each other. It is safe to say that anyone and everyone knows where you both stand on the issue of Massdrop et al.

@webwit
I, for one, would ...

Wow, this went from cold to hot in a hurry. No one 'owns' the execution of the ergodox project (it is, after all, open source) , and no one can dictate how people here communicate unless the ban hammer is brought to bear. The Mass drop may or may not happen, the group buy may or may not happen, but ...

pkvitt, the pcb is pretty much locked in, but remember that it is programmable, so mapping the entirety of your additional characters to the any keys you want should not present much of a problem. We even talked about this some back on page 20 in the default view of this thread. The net gain of the ...

Would hopping on 7 bit's group buy for 80 plate mounted MX switches be a good choice in anticipation of the impending something ? It seems that at $0.06 per switch there is little chance of getting a better deal from anywhere else (massdrop, groupbuy, whatever), regardless of our eventual numbers ...

Were I to do my own case, I was thinking about using hex bolts with rubber domes on the end and either tapping holes or embedding a nut/sleeve. But I don't know how much overhead in terms of parts and machining cost that would incur.

Hmm, this seems like a relatively easy thing to do after the ...

Bpiphany designed the PCBs, but Jewce has been with the project from the start and is one of the primary organizers and helped write the remapping software.

The come to the community and because they want to buy a product. They the tell us how we are going to do it?

I found this community after an exhaustive search of the net for a keyboard that fit my specifications, I was overjoyed when I found the thread on geekhack, but the deskthority ...

The group buy logistics on a project of this magnitude means that not only will that someone be handling a huge amount of cash, but they will also have to devote hundreds of hours into coordinating the back and front ends of the project.

If someone is willing to step up and do this in a timely ...

Thanks for taking the time to do that Bisl, and I agree that this sounds like the ideal choice. My vote goes to Massdrop as well. I see that Geekhack has been kept up to date as well, so I guess that once we can get a full BoM and list of choices to Massdrop, we can see how interesting this project ...

PCBs should probably come at <$20 each ($40 per pair)

You already got a stack didn't you? Where did you get them from? Can we piggy-back your tooling costs? I imagine we can't but it would be neat if we could. I would be in immediately for a pair of PCBs for $40, and I might still hop on the ...

The PCB design is pretty much set

This is what I thought, but the kicad file for it is not on the ergodox.org.

Is this process as simple as submitting the full bill of materials to the service of choice, along with the number of orders + addresses? How exactly does the money flow?

I assume ...

@Jesus

I think that is comes from 2 things: there is not certainty that the project is "done" and hence the hesitancy to begin, the pcb configuration is not even available on the project page, so naturally people would want to hear from the project's namesake. Second, collecting money and ...

Regarding massdrop's "members only" wall, use the dom inspector to kill it if there is something that you want to see.

I agree with Bisl, getting an initial set of quotes is a step that won't hurt anything and will keep the ball rolling. Also I am on the fence about only pcbs or the "package" deal ...

Thank you for that info, it is indeed well thought out, I will import it into my workspace and give it some close consideration. I am disturbed that I have not seen that before.

I have Haskell in mind ...

I miss easy access to the numbers (still not convinced that middle row is easy enough to access for fluent typing) and can't find the arrow keys at all

arrow keys... :?:

I decided to make a custom multi level layout for the ergodox, with the goal of being useful to mathematicians and prgrammers and anyone else who might need some ideas about layering. since I have not typed on the ergodox yet, I cannot say that all the placements will feel right, but I think that it ...
