75% ISO Grid layout keyboard, with a "hand made" acrylic case.

So I wanted to try a non-staggered keyboard, and I also wanted to try my hand at manually wiring up a matrix. So I got a plate lasercut through LeandreN's group buy, using this layout . I used Gateron blues I bought a long time ago through a group buy. I also finally invested in a decent soldering ...

The "base" of the keyboard is just a wedge (in birch I think), this was cut with a circular saw at an angle that "seemed right". Then the outer parts in mahogany was cut to height based on the spacers + PCB + switch + keycap height, to the bottom of the keycap.

I just "winged it" on the angle, and I never measured it. What's seen as a good angle for a keyboard?

Getting plates cut for custom layouts?

Hi. So with one custom keyboard done I'd like to do the next one a bit crazier, and without a PCB, just manual wiring. Is there any good places to get plates cut (aluminum, steel, acrylic, doesn't really matter) online? Getting it done locally is going to be very expensive.

So does anyone have any ...

That is probably the best argument to be made for the ANSI enter, but it's pretty much irrelevant as long as people have backspace in it's normal location. I've moved the backspace to caps lock location and it's probably the best change I ever did.

Has there ever been a 1.75u backspace key in any of these kits?

Yes. After R2 there were Bonus Packs run on PMK that contained a 1.75u Backspace:

I use ISO Dvorak (Norwegian). My current 75% layout looks like this:

Some reasoning around this layout is I wanted to keep it as keycap set friendly as possible, thus the default shift sizes, even around the arrow cluster.

He did specifically reach out to me because he said he had extras, so if I didn't need any assembly I could have it right away. But yeah, I haven't followed it much after that but it seems he crumbled under the huge amount of assembly work he had to do, and just everything fell apart?

Resistors came separate on mine. Now I'm thinking I should feel lucky that I got mine. But I guess that's the risk of doing GBs, you can't be in a hurry. I'm just glad I was able to make a 75% ISO board, as these are literally non-existent.

The height is OK. It's higher than a Poker, but it feel ...

Replacing Kensington Expert Trackball with "healing balls"

I've bought a Kensington Expert Trackball , and from what I have read the ball is slightly too small to be replaced with an US sized pool ball. However if you search for "55mm ball" on Ebay you find lots of different "healing balls".

Not sure if I'm just imagining it or if it's because of the clears but it does feel a bit deeper. But I also bottom out less on clears than on browns so it might just be that. :P

Originally for round one, but had to cancel because of lack of money. Reordered a year later (round 2). De offered me one of the left overs from round 1 as I had a very simple order.

Did you order any extra assembly for yours?

Anything I can use with a clear switch that is a bit more loose. Are there any stems that are identical to clears?

Edit:

Seems like light grey is the only one that have a similar bump to clears.

You don't by any chance sell stems only 7bit? I want to swap these tight-as-butt clears for something a bit more manageable. :)

People planning on buying MX Clears and PCB mounting them should be vary that they are extremely tight. Not sure if this was just the batch I bought but mine are consistently very tight, and switches more often than not open up when I'm removing keycaps. The MX Greens I bought at the same time are ...

Thanks. I think a plate is a long way off economically wise. :P

By the way, I straightened the few crooked switches now and I'm populating the board with keycaps. I have two MX Greens on the board, and on those the caps come off normally. So it seems MX Clears are some chubby fuckers. :P

Now I feel like I should have plated my keyboard. PCB mount switches can be plate switches if you just clip off the plastic stems, right?
